Massachusetts Gun Law Success Clearly a False Narrative
BOSTON – The Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) last week put out a release providing factual evidence from the 2017 FBI Crime Report supporting GOAL’s belief that Massachusetts’ gun laws are far from a success. In fact, the FBI Report shows that our 2nd Amendment-civil-rights-friendly neighbors to the north are far safer from gun violence than people in the Commonwealth. The FBI report in fact shows that Massachusetts has the highest “violent crime” rate in the northeastern United States.
“Once again the evidence that Massachusetts gun laws are somehow a success is simply a false narrative,” said Jim Wallace Executive Director of GOAL. “It seems more and more apparent that the supporters of so-called gun control would rather live a lie than actually save lives. If I were a political leader in one of these northern states, I would make it clear to Massachusetts’ leaders to keep their failed policies out of our states. We want our citizens to actually be safe.”
The FBI defines “violent crime” as murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. When reviewing the report, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire are the top three safest states in the nation. Maine, ranking #1, has a rating of 121 per hundred thousand. Sadly, the Bay State ranks 26th with a rating of 358, nearly triple the violent crime rate here.
It is GOAL’s belief that the false narrative surrounding the “success” of the state’s gun laws are actually costing lives. Since people believe the lies, they are not looking to fix a problem they won’t even admit exists.
