New Online Firearm License Application System
The Firearms Record Bureau has launched a new online portal for residents, and non-residents, to submit applications for new licenses as well as renewals. Portal link: https://mircsportal.chs.state.ma.us/mircs-portal/login.xhtml
The new system allows people to set up an account, like most online systems. Once that is accomplished, the application or renewal process can begin online. This system does not bypass the local licensing authority entirely. It does prevent local authorities from delaying taking applications for weeks or months.
As we understand it, as soon as the online application is completed and accepted the 40-day clock starts ticking. It doesn’t mean that the local authorities will not ignore the mandated timeline. What it does prevent is the state and the local authority blaming each other about delays. Supposedly, the applicant can log in and see exactly where the application is in the process. So, no chasing bad information.
GOAL will continue to update members about the new system as needed.
