Fitchburg Firearm Licensing

Update: Councilor Dinatale had just got off the phone with the Fitchburg CLEO. The Chief is claiming that this is all a mistake due to a new person being in charge of licensing, and that person being out sick. Rep DiNatale promised to monitor this situation and asked that we stay in touch.

On Monday, March 8, 2010 several GOAL members contacted our office regarding a recorded message on the Fitchburg Police Department’s Firearm Licensing Unit’s answering machine. The message states that due to budgetary constraints, they are not able to accept any new firearm license applications. Citizens calling the number are asked to leave a message and when the Unit is able to process licenses again someone will contact them.

GOAL considers this action to be completely unacceptable and most likely a violation of the law. This unfortunate turn of events is yet another example of the need for reforming the gun laws here in Massachusetts.

Around 11:00 a.m. GOAL contacted Mayor Wong’s office in Fitchburg, but was met with a very disinterested person taking the phone call who suggested we contact the police department with our concerns.

GOAL will continue to work to resolve this issue and we urge our members to contact the Mayor’s office and their other elected officials and ask them to resolve this matter immediately.

Any individual seeking a firearms license who is a resident of the City of Fitchburg or owns a business situated in the City of Fitchburg, must contact the Fitchburg Police Department's Firearms Licensing Unit at 978-345-1435 to schedule an appointment to process their application.
